Apparently this club started out at Club Caverns, a basement of a drugstore...wow! Back in da day DC "in" crowd and the "elite" could be found there quite often Duke Ellington and Cab Calloway, just to name a few.
In the 1950s, the club's name was changed to Crystal Caverns and then to Bohemian Caverns. In 1959, promoter Tony Taylor and Angelo Alvino bought the club and tricked it out, turning into the "it" venue of its time... SO MANY LEADING JAZZ MUSICIANS FROM THE 60's... Bill Evans, Shirl Evans, Miles Davis, John Coltrane,and Charles Mingus.
Open Mic night at Bohemian Cavern in Washington DC. Each every Tuesday, starts around... 7:00pm CP TIME.. And I must tell you this event has caught my attention, and that doesn't happen often. The hosts and the participants are so uplifting. The people are all just very excited to be there... and I am too! I live to see my people doing something young and positive and fresh. Its the happenings. If you go early, you don't have to pay a cover, and if you go late, its only 5 bucks. And this is especially great because it allows you to go home and go to sleep and still wake up for work on Wednesday.. ya dig?
They feature rappers, singers, musicians, poets, comedians, and it is all done very well organized with wonderful MC's, that always annunciate and always have something positive to say about the next act. But one may have a complex because he makes wayyyy to many dark skin color cracks on himself, but that is not the point.
